Cannabutter Calculator

Two questions, two directions. Either you have the flower and want to know how strong the butter will be, or you know the dose you want and need the ratio to hit it. Both are below, and both show the arithmetic, including the two losses most calculators leave out.

Direction one: I have the flower, how strong is it?

The two losses

THC in the butter: 0 mg
Per serving: 0 mg
Strength of the butter: 0 mg per gram
Ratio: 0 g of flower per 100 g of butter

Direction two: I want a dose, how much flower?

Use 0 g of flower

Same two loss figures as above. Change them there and this answer follows.

The ratio, in plain terms

Most recipes are written as one ounce of flower to one pound of butter, which is roughly 6.2 g per 100 g. That is a strong batch and it is where a lot of people start by accident.

Flower per 100 g butterOld moneyStrength
1.5 to 2.5 gabout 7 to 11 g per poundmild
3.5 gabout 16 g per poundstandard, the default above

Why this answer is lower than other calculators

Two steps get skipped almost everywhere. THCA becomes THC at a mass ratio of 0.877, because the molecule sheds a carboxyl group, so the number drops before anything else happens. Then no home decarb converts everything and no infusion extracts everything. A calculator that ignores both reports roughly double what you will actually eat.

What this assumes

  • The label percentage is honest. Flower is often tested optimistically.
  • Your decarb held its temperature, 110 to 115 C for 30 to 40 minutes.
  • The butter was held at 70 to 85 C and never boiled.
  • The infusion was stirred well, so every spoonful carries the same dose.
  • Nothing here knows your tolerance, your body, or what you last ate.

Edibles take 30 to 120 minutes to arrive and last 4 to 12 hours. Wait two hours before deciding a dose was too small. Label the jar and keep it away from children and pets.

The method itself is here: how to make cannabutter, with the decarboxylation temperature chart for step one, the edible dosage calculator for a finished recipe, and the potency calculator for tinctures and oils by volume.

Holding both temperatures accurately is most of the difficulty in the two efficiency figures above, which is what a NOIDS Herb Lab is for.
