STRAIN
Jack Herer is the reference point for a clear-headed daytime sativa. Named after the American activist and author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes, it was bred in the Netherlands and has been used as a parent for a long list of later strains.
Background and lineage
Jack Herer is generally credited to a cross of Haze with a Northern Lights #5 x Shiva Skunk line, developed by Sensi Seeds in the Netherlands in the 1990s. Several distinct phenotypes were selected from that work and all carry the name, so a Jack Herer that reads as almost pure sativa and one that reads as balanced are both legitimate.
Aroma and terpenes
The signature is pine and black pepper over a citrus background. Profiles are commonly terpinolene-forward with caryophyllene and pinene, which is the same combination behind its sharp, resinous smell.
Reported effects
Users commonly report a clear, alert and creative lift with little of the physical weight associated with indica-leaning hybrids. It is one of the names most often picked for daytime use, which says more about the reported effect than about any measured property.

Note
Strain data varies by grower, phenotype and batch. Treat lineage, terpenes and THC ranges as typical, not guaranteed, and read the lab report where you can.
Making something with it
Whatever the label says, what reaches you is a batch of flower with its own chemistry. If you are turning it into oil or butter, decarboxylate it first and weigh both the material and the fat, because that is the only way the potency calculator can give you a dose per millilitre. Our Make It section covers the method, and the NOIDS Herb Lab is the kit we use for it.
