TERPENE
Linalool is the lavender note, and the terpene most associated with calm. Linalool gives cannabis a soft, floral, slightly spicy aroma. It is the compound that makes lavender smell like lavender, and it is widely studied for calming effects.
Aroma and character
Linalool is floral and delicate, lavender with a faint citrus-spice edge. It tends to round out and soften a chemovar’s aroma rather than dominate it.
What research suggests
Linalool is one of the terpenes most studied for anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), calming and sedative effects, largely in animal models and aromatherapy research. It is the basis for lavender’s long use as a relaxant. Cannabis-specific human data is still limited.
Where else it is found
Linalool is abundant in lavender, and also in coriander, birch and many flowers and spices. It is a common ingredient in perfumes and calming products.
