White Widow

STRAIN

Balanced hybridEarthyClassic

White Widow is the strain that defined the Dutch coffeeshop menu in the 1990s. It is a balanced hybrid named for the heavy coat of white trichomes on the flower, and it is still one of the most widely propagated names in Europe.

Background and lineage

White Widow is generally credited to a cross of a Brazilian sativa landrace with a South Indian indica, first popularised in the Netherlands in the mid 1990s. Because it has been reproduced from seed by many breeders for thirty years, the name now covers a wide family of related lines rather than one clone. Two packets bought from different breeders can differ noticeably.

Aroma and terpenes

The aroma is earthy and woody with a sharp peppery edge rather than a sweet one. Profiles are commonly myrcene-forward with caryophyllene and pinene.

Reported effects

Users commonly report an alert, talkative lift with a clear physical relaxation behind it, which is why it reads as a balanced hybrid rather than a sedative. Its reputation for being sociable is the most consistent thing reported about it.

Note

Strain data varies by grower, phenotype and batch. Treat lineage, terpenes and THC ranges as typical, not guaranteed, and read the lab report where you can.

Making something with it

Whatever the label says, what reaches you is a batch of flower with its own chemistry. If you are turning it into oil or butter, decarboxylate it first and weigh both the material and the fat, because that is the only way the potency calculator can give you a dose per millilitre. Our Make It section covers the method, and the NOIDS Herb Lab is the kit we use for it.
