CBD and THC are the two major cannabinoids in cannabis. They’re both born from the same parent molecule (CBGA), but take very different paths in the body. If you’re trying to understand how cannabis works,or how to choose the right strain or product, knowing the difference between these two is essential.
They have the same atoms (21 carbon, 30 hydrogen, 2 oxygen), but arranged differently. That tiny change means they interact very differently with your body.
Effecten op het lichaam
THC: De rauschverwekker
- Bindt aan CB1-receptoren in de hersenen
- Mimics anandamide (your natural “bliss molecule”)
- Produceert euforie, veranderde tijd-/zintuiglijke waarneming, honger
- Kan bij sommigen ook angst of paranoia veroorzaken
CBD: De balanceerder
- Doesn’t bind directly to CB1 or CB2
- Moduleert de receptoren indirect
- Kan angst, ontsteking en pijn verminderen
- Often used to counterbalance THC’s strong effects
CBD can actually make THC feel less intense by blocking some of its access to CB1 receptors.
Hennep vs. marihuana
Hemp = low THC (under 0.3%), often high in CBD
Marijuana = high THC, variable CBD
Legally, this distinction matters a lot. Hemp-derived CBD is legal in many places. THC-rich marijuana often isn’t,unless you’re in a country or state that has legalized it.
THC vs CBD: legaliteit en testen
- CBD: Often legal, especially when derived from hemp
- THC: Still restricted in many regions
Drug tests look for THC metabolites. Even if you only use full-spectrum CBD, trace amounts of THC could show up. Broad-spectrum or isolate CBD are safer options if testing is a concern.
Entourage-effect
CBD and THC often work best together. This is called the entourage effect, the idea that cannabinoids and terpenes enhance each other’s effects.
Daarom geven veel gebruikers de voorkeur aan full-spectrum producten boven isolaten. Een evenwichtige verhouding (zoals 1:1 CBD:THC) kan voordelen bieden met minder risico op sterke bijwerkingen.
Welke is beter?
Er is geen winnaar. Het hangt af van uw behoeften:
- Need relaxation without intoxication? CBD.
- Looking for pain relief with a euphoric boost? THC.
- Want the best of both? Try a balanced THC:CBD strain or product.
