Durban Poison

STRAIN

Landrace sativaAniseDaytime

Durban Poison is one of the few true landraces still sold widely. It comes from the area around Durban in South Africa, and unlike most names on this list it was not bred from other named strains. That makes it unusually consistent.

Background and lineage

Durban Poison is a South African landrace, a population that adapted locally over a long period rather than a deliberate cross. Seed was brought to Europe and the United States in the 1970s and selected for early flowering. It is a parent of Girl Scout Cookies, which is how its character reaches a large part of the modern dessert family.

Aroma and terpenes

The signature is sweet anise and licorice over pine, which is distinctive enough to identify by smell. Profiles are commonly terpinolene-forward with myrcene i ocimene.

Reported effects

Users commonly report a clean, energetic and focused effect with very little physical heaviness, which is the classic landrace sativa description. It is one of the more reliably daytime names.

Uwaga

Strain data varies by grower, phenotype and batch. Treat lineage, terpenes and THC ranges as typical, not guaranteed, and read the lab report where you can.

Making something with it

Whatever the label says, what reaches you is a batch of flower with its own chemistry. If you are turning it into oil or butter, decarboxylate it first and weigh both the material and the fat, because that is the only way the kalkulator mocy can give you a dose per millilitre. Our Zrób to section covers the method, and the NOIDS Herb Lab is the kit we use for it.
